TiVo Inc. is suing Verizon Communications Inc. and AT&T Inc. TiVo is claiming that the use of "time warping" technology infringes on their patent. Both AT&T and Verizon offer digital video recorders with their television service. This is a feature that TiVo has long been associated with, and is seen as pioneering. According to The Wall Street Journal, TiVo has tried to negotiate with Verizon and AT&T regarding the use of the technology in the past; but it was to no avail. The Wall Street Journal also states that "TiVo is involved in a nearly five-year-long battle over the technology with Dish Network Corp. and EchoStar."
