Although the Constitution's 1st Amendment grants Americans freedom of speech. There are some types of speech that isn't federally protected. This includes: (1) Speech that is part of an act the law traditionally would consider criminal, (2) Defamation, (3) Obscenity, and (4) Speech that incites violence.
