For the first time in the third quarter, shipments of notebook computers have exceeded that of desktop computers.
According to The Wall Street Journal, "Worldwide shipments of notebook computers rose nearly 40% from last year to 38.6 million units, as desktop shipments fell 1.3% to 38.5 million units."
The growth of the demand for notebook computers has been attributed to consumers' desires for cheaper, more compact machines. People are proving to be willing to trade CPU power for affordability and portability.
