The U.S. government has reportedly disbursed $44 billion to the American Education System. According to The Wall Street Journal, this is the first round of money that has been ear-marked to go to U. S. schools from the economic stimulus package.
The Wall Street Journal reports that states that receive federal money for their schools must show that their schools have improved academically and staff-wise.
The money distribution comes in the wake of the federal government seeking to get more control of school operations. Many major cities that haven't done so already, are also vying for the mayor to control their school systems.
