Despite swindling several people and entities out of an estimated combined figure of $50 billion, Bernard L. Madoff is walking the streets a free man. [SIDEBAR: What part of the game is that???]
Prosecutors attempted to have Madoff jailed, when they pointed out to a judge yesterday that Mr. Madoff had violated an injunction by transferring valuables valued in excess of $1 million to immediate family members while his assets were supposed to be frozen.
According to The Wall Street Journal, U.S. Magistrate Judge Ronald L. Ellis declined to revoke Madoff's bail. Instead, the judge requested that the prosecutors and the defendant's legal team file papers on the motion. A decision on the motion is allegedly expected to be determined later this week.
