Today is Philadelphia native Phyllis Hyman's birthday. The talented jazz vocalist received a Tony award nomination for her performance in the Broadway musical, "Sophisticated Ladies."
Phyllis Hyman was also a strong advocate for building Black businesses. She was committed to hiring employees of African descent.
