Elsie Law's Daily Dose Of The Law

The music industry decided to drop their collective lawsuit against free music downloaders. In 2003, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) started suing tens of thousands of online music fans for piracy when they freely downloaded music. Some of the defendants, who were just regular everyday people, were hit with unaffordable fines.

After finding that the lawsuits left the music industry with a black eye in the arena of public relations, and failed to be a deterrent for free online file sharing, the RIAA has announced that they are abandoning the "take 'em to court" approach.
