According to The Wall Street Journal, the wireless industry is applauding this new legislation. Wireless providers are hoping that the inventory will identify and eliminate 'spectrum squatters'- who are airwaves users who don't own the licenses for the frequencies that they are utilizing. If the inventory accomplishes this, more airwaves will be available for purchase. Wireless vendors are eager to scoop them up.
As an interesting sidenote, The Wall Street Journal also states that last year, the federal treasury netted at least $20 billion auctioning off tv airwaves.
