On March 6th, Nintendo shipped its 100 millionth Nintendo DS device. This milestone made Nintendo the record holder for being the fastest selling portable gaming system to reach that mark.
The Nintendo DS debuted in November 2004. In less than half a decade, it has become the clear forerunner in portable gaming. The DS's closest rival, Sony's Play Station Portable, has shipped half as many units as the Nintendo DS although both game consoles debuted in the same year.
The new version of the Nintendo DS, the DSi, is predicted to become a competitor of the iPod Touch. The upgraded DSi will have similar features as the Touch, and will reportedly retail for less. The DSi, which is already available to customers in Japan, is scheduled to retail in the United States early next month.
I wonder how the emergence of the DSi will affect Apple's stock. After all, Apple still has the Mac Book.
