Today's Fly Or Die Commerce Report: The Coinage Act

On this day in 1849, The United States Government passed The Coinage Act. This act gave the go-ahead for the minting of two types of gold coins: The Gold Dollar, and the $20 Gold Double Eagle.

The Double Eagle was created out of what was valued as $20 worth of gold at that time. The Double Eagle is now regarded by many coin collectors as "the most valuable coin in the world."
