Elsie Law's Daily Dose Of The Law

Author Lorraine Hansberry was inspired to write "A Raisin In The Sun" from personal experience.

Her family was the plaintiff in the Supreme Court case, Hansberry v. Lee. They were ultimately victorious in their lawsuit regarding racially restrictive covenants.

The Justice who presided over the case ruled that since Carl Hansberry (Lorraine's father) didn't have an opportunity to be heard when he filed his civil action against the discriminatory covenant, it could not be enforced because doing so would deprive him of his due process.
