Elsie Law's Daily Dose Of The Law: New Mexico Deads The Death Penalty

New Mexico's Governor signed legislation that repealed the death penalty in that state. Previously, the Governor was in favor of capital punishment. However, he has stated that he doesn't have confidence in the current justice system to dole out decisions regarding who lives and who dies for their crimes.

The U.S. Supreme Court reinstated the death penalty in 1976. According to The Wall Street Journal, New Mexico is the second state to ban execution since the reinstatement. New Jersey is the first.
