Elsie Law's Daily Dose Of The Law

"QUESTION: Can sealed records ever come back to haunt a juvenile offender?

ANSWER: Yes. Record-sealing rewrites history for many, but not all, purposes.

For example: (1) A sealed record of a juvenile court adjudication may be used to increase the severity of a sentence following a later conviction. (2) An application for a job in law enforcement may trigger a police agency's access to sealed records; and (3) An application for auto insurance may allow the insurance company to have access to sealed records pertaining to automobile-related offenses." -From, "The Criminal Law Handbook" By: Bergman & Berman-Barrett
